Eyewitnesses reported that Psillakis had been surfing for about 30 minutes when he was attacked approximately 100 meters offshore. The shark caused catastrophic injuries, including the loss of multiple limbs. Despite immediate rescue efforts by fellow surfers and lifeguards, Psillakis succumbed to his injuries on the beach.
